The Movie The Patriot Essay - 1949 Words

The movie â€Å"The Patriot† is a great and thrilling film set in the revolutionary war. The film is directed by Roland Emmerich and primarily stars Mel Gibson. The film addresses heavy themes for the time and tries to represent the Revolutionary war as closely as possible. The films ideology was nothing unique however and most movies at the time represented these themes as well. â€Å"The Patriot,† is set in 1776 South Carolina to be exact. In the beginning of the film the Revolutionary war has already begun but only in the North as the South have yet to fully commit to the war. However, a meeting is called in the South and they agree to join the war and fight against the british alongside their brothers in the north. In the film, Mel Gibson plays the role of a man named â€Å"Benjamin Martin† who was known as a war hero after participating in the French and Indian war and winning a battle simply referred to as â€Å" Fort Wilderness† in the movie. Despite being a war hero, Benjamin is hesitant about starting a war with Great Britain as he feels like war is something that should never happen. Benjamin is also clear in stating that he has no intention of joining the war because he is a single father and has a family to take care of but as the movie shows, you can never escape war. The movie truly begins when Benjamin s eldest son, Gabriel enlists in the continental army against his father s will and subsequently returns after being injured from a battle.
